On December 3, 2009, a commercial website was launched to sell an unauthorized recording of John Lennon at The Hit Factory, recorded on the evening of August 18-19, 1980. As part of their sales promotion, the site used substantial portions of an original article that I wrote for Beatlefan Magazine (Vol. 20, No. 3, March-April 1999, Issue # 117) about the unreleased “Double Fantasy” video taped that night. The site also posted excerpts of the follow up information that was hosted on this website for over eleven years.
I am sickened at how my original research and subsequent entries have been exploited without my permission, for such a crass and tasteless commercial promotion. I would hope that there is swift action by the copyright holders to shut that site down.
As a result of this terrible plagiarism, I have decided to remove my original article and research website until further notice. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the research over the years, and for the many great discussions and letters of appreciation that I have received from readers all over the world.
One final note – Although it appears that the historic video footage from that night may indeed be lost forever, should anyone have any leads or know of its whereabouts, I might suggest contacting the Lennon Estate. This way, should the footage ever be found, it could be released through legitimate channels so that everyone could enjoy it. Thank you.
